Skills matter, and you can show them

A computer science degree helps, but it is not the only way in. In web development, design and security, many employers look closely at what you can actually build, design or fix.

That means you can learn the skills, practice them on real work and show the results. It takes steady effort, and your background in another field can be a strength.

Pick one direction

Tech is wide, so choose one path to start. Web development is about building websites and applications. UI/UX design is about making digital products easy and pleasant to use. Cyber security is about protecting systems and data.

Pick the one that matches what you enjoy. If you like solving problems in code, try web development. If you care about how people use things, try design. If you like finding weak points and fixing them, try security.

Build work you can show

Employers want to see what you can do. Build small projects: a website, an app, a redesign of a real service, or a home lab where you practice securing a network.

Put your work online in a portfolio or on GitHub, and explain what you did and why. A clear portfolio often says more than a list of courses.

Where certifications fit

In security and networking, certifications are a common way to show your skills. CompTIA Security+ is a vendor-neutral, entry-level security certification. The CCNA, from Cisco, covers networking basics and network security fundamentals.

Neither one asks for a degree. Each awarding body sets its own exam and renewal rules, so check its website before you plan. In web development and design, your portfolio usually matters more than a certificate.

Where to start

Our Full Stack Web Development course teaches front-end and back-end skills, and our UI/UX Design course covers user research, prototyping and visual design. Our Cyber Security course builds a foundation for CompTIA Security+ and the CCNA.
