What is the CAPM?
The Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) is a certification from PMI, the Project Management Institute. It shows you understand the basics of project management: the terms, the processes and the main ways teams run projects.
It is a first step. You can earn the CAPM early in your career and work toward the PMP later, once you have experience leading projects.
Who is the CAPM for?
The CAPM suits you if you are new to project work: a student, a recent graduate, a project assistant or coordinator, or someone moving into projects from another field.
It does not ask for experience leading projects, which makes it a practical starting point.
What does it take to earn the CAPM?
PMI asks for a secondary school diploma or its equivalent, and for some project management education, before you sit the exam. You then pass the CAPM exam.
You agree to PMI's Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct, and you keep the CAPM active through continuing education under PMI's renewal rules.
Requirements can change. Check the PMI website for the current details before you plan.
