What is the CFA?
The Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charter is awarded by CFA Institute. It focuses on investment analysis, portfolio management and professional ethics.
The CFA Program has three levels. Each level builds on the one before, moving from investment tools and concepts, to analysis and valuation, to portfolio management.
Who is the CFA for?
The CFA suits you if you want a career in investment, for example as an analyst, a portfolio manager or a researcher at a bank or investment firm.
It asks for a lot of steady study. It fits people who enjoy deep analysis and are ready for a long-term commitment.
What does it take to earn the CFA?
You pass all three levels of the CFA exam. To enroll, CFA Institute asks for a university degree, or for you to be close to finishing one, or for a mix of education and work experience.
You also need relevant work experience in the investment field, and you become a member of CFA Institute. You commit to its Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional Conduct, and members are encouraged to keep learning through continuing education.
Requirements can change. Check the CFA Institute website for the current details before you plan.
