What is the PMP?

The Project Management Professional (PMP) is a certification from PMI, the Project Management Institute. It shows you can lead projects: plan the work, manage people and risks, and see a project through to delivery.

It covers different ways of running projects, including traditional and agile approaches. That makes it relevant in many fields, from construction and engineering to IT, banking and NGOs.

Who is the PMP for?

The PMP suits you if you already lead or direct projects and want a recognized credential. Project managers, engineers, team leads and coordinators who run projects often earn it.

If you are new to project management, look at the CAPM first.

What does it take to earn the PMP?

PMI asks for project management education and for experience leading projects. How much experience you need depends on your level of education.

You pass the PMP exam and agree to PMI's Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct. To keep the PMP, you earn professional development units through continuing education.

Requirements can change. Check the PMI website for the current details before you plan.
